Expertise arrives too late to be useful
Everything a new grower needs to know already exists. It is in books, in forums, in the heads of people who have done twenty seasons. What it is not in is the moment of decision — standing at a bed in May, deciding whether to sow now or wait a week, with wet hands and no time to research.
BloomKeeper folds the expertise of seasoned growers into data and rules, then presents it inline at that exact moment. Key dates are computed rather than remembered. Hazards warn before they bite. The grower cuts flowers; the app keeps the books, the calendar and the institutional memory.
The morning briefing
The first screen of the day reads like a daily paper: date, week, hardiness zone, and then everything the farm needs from you before dark.
Sunrise to sunset, and what it means
Daylight total, current temperature and humidity, today's high and low with growing degree days, and one farm-relevant headline — "rain at 3 pm", "frost overnight", "hot afternoon". Frost, heat and wind alerts are framed as things to act on, not numbers to interpret.
What is ready, and how much of it
Plantings past their first-harvest date, with stems projected after logged harvests are subtracted. Bloom, harvest and germination events for the next sixty days sit below, each tapping through to the bed it came from.
Stems, converted into revenue
Recipe by recipe, how many bouquets today's ready stems can actually assemble — and what that is worth at each recipe's set price. The number a grower needs before calling a florist.
Five tasks, filtered by crew
Top open tasks by priority, filtered to Field, Tunnel, Workshop or Sales. Quick-schedule and swipe-to-complete, because the phone comes out of a pocket with one hand free.

The farm, drawn to scale
A top-down canvas of the actual property — beds as wood-framed raised beds with per-stage plants drawn in, paths, structures, a dashed survey boundary, a fine one-foot and coarse five-foot grid, a scale bar that reads its own visual length and a compass that follows the canvas's calibrated orientation.
Six growth stages — seed, sprout, vegetative, bud, bloom, peak — drive what each bed looks like, so the map tells you where the season is at a glance rather than requiring a report. Undo and redo cover bed creation, path drawing, placements, deletions and moves uniformly.
A satellite, map and hybrid view remains available for anyone who would rather work against imagery than the drawn plan.

Laying out rows without overrunning the bed
Cartoon canvas on the left, row editor on the right. Rows run lengthwise or crosswise; paths take wood chips, pebbles, stepping stones or bare earth; every strip carries its width in your preferred unit with a used-of-total readout, so the plan cannot quietly exceed the space.
Crops are dragged in from a palette. A single row can carry several segments for inter-cropping. Plant count and spacing derive from each other either way, landscape fabric is a per-row toggle, and layout templates apply a common pattern in one tap.
A new crop can be added from inside the planner — picked from the curated library or typed in — so planning never breaks to go somewhere else.
A field notebook that survives the season
Entries bucket by day into a catalogue of cards — a photo band or a gradient tinted by the bed's crop, time and temperature, a bed pill, a serif title taken from the first line, an excerpt and tag chips. Above the feed, a count and an archive date, because a journal's value is partly in its length.
Composing is voice-first. Record while working, transcribe on device, and the transcript flows into the body. Weather conditions attach themselves at save time. If a bed is linked, its latest soil reading, its map preview and its recent history attach too — so an entry written in fifteen seconds still carries its context a year later.
Four optional prompts — observation, action taken, what to try differently, reflection — let a quick voice note grow into something worth rereading. "On this day" surfaces entries from previous years within three days of today, which is how a farm accumulates judgement rather than just records.

The reference shelf
A bundled botanical reference and the grower's own pinned crops in one surface, presented as seed-envelope packets — cream paper cards that flip from an illustration and stat ribbon to a sowing-and-culture spec grid and season calendar. Filter by type, season or yours; sort by pinned, blooming soonest, sowing soonest or shortest days to maturity.
A packet opens into the full entry: illustrated bloom, a status banner reading your own planting ("Bed 4 · Day 62 · BUD"), vital stats, an annual season timeline, growing requirements, harvest guidance, and a health grid that badges threats you have flagged in your own scout log.
Cultivar entries go further — year-over-year performance deltas, stems-by-week from prior harvests, a lineage timeline built from tuber batch parentage, vendor sourcing, and a printable one-page field card for the crew.

A threats library covering pests, disease, oomycetes and wildlife, with guided symptom triage on device.

Photo lookup against the cultivar catalogue, with a species reference behind it.

Where the season becomes a number
Calendar
Every dated thing on the farm aggregates into one month grid — seeded, germinated, transplanted, expected bloom, expected harvest, logged harvests, journal entries, scheduled and completed tasks. Colour-coded and paired with iconography, so the coding still works for colour-blind users. Tap a day, tap an event, land in the editor it came from.
Insights
Stems projected, stems harvested, active plantings and bouquets ready across the top, each drilling down. Six analytics cards below: bed yield ranking, germination success, tuber production, supply consumption, recipe profitability and stage distribution — plus a timeline of the last thirty and next sixty days.

Wet hands, bright sun, no signal
Three themes tuned for sunlight readability — a warm paper default, a clinical white, and a deep black for direct midday sun. Touch targets meet the 44-point minimum everywhere and scale to 52 or 64 points for gloved and heavy-gloved operation.
Density and type size are separate preferences: the text-size override respects the grower's explicit choice, while density adjusts spacing and card heights around it. Card heights scale with type, so the largest accessibility sizes do not clip.
Everything syncs across the grower's own devices, and a lost iPad is an inconvenience rather than a lost season. Deleting a record cleans up the photos, audio and soil PDFs it owned, so the device does not silently fill up.
Offline first
Weather and daylight fall back to local solar calculation when there is no signal or location permission.
Voice and photos
On-device transcription, six photos per entry, thumbnails decoded off the main thread so scrolling never stutters.
Spoken aloud
Composed screen-reader labels on rich rows and explicit labels on icon buttons — colour is never the only signal.

A three-step welcome on an empty farm that routes straight to the surface that needs filling.
Intelligence that stays on the device
The in-flight work is four on-device workflows: a local inference engine that turns farm state into risk alerts, a seed-packet scanner that matches a photographed packet against the catalogue, semantic journal search over natural-language embeddings, and a sprout counter using vision models on a photographed bed.
Each one follows the same rule as the rest of the app: it runs where the data already is, and it exists to hand judgement back to the grower rather than to take it away.
Beta
BloomKeeper is in beta testing with growers on real farms through a season. Interfaces and data shapes may still change between releases. If you grow cut flowers and want to put it to work, we would rather hear about your season than talk about the roadmap.
